This message means, that you have to install the kernel sources for your
distribution. Look at your distributions documentation about how to do
this. Maybe this link will help you, too:

http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc5.html#kernelsrc

I tried to follow the instructions given on the link above and it seemed to work.  I actually found the ominous file " version.h" in "/usr/include/linux" to which I set the path (using "./configure --with-kernel=/usr"). So the configuring seems to work fine.

But when calling "make" I run into a lot of problems again:

...
/opt/users/src/temp/alsa-driver-1.0.13/include/adriver.h:727:25: error: linux/delay.h: No such file or directory
...
/opt/users/src/temp/alsa-driver-1.0.13/include/adriver.h:796:22: error: linux/mm.h: No such file or directory
...
hwdep.c:26:24: error: linux/slab.h: No such file or directory

and so on. It seems that a lot of files are being missed.

Does anyone have any idea? Did the kernel-source installation not work? How to test this? Where to get all these missing files.,..

Thanks for any help
  Alex
