Lee,

The wiki troubleshooting page jumps from ensuring the sound cards are in
/proc/asound/cards to running alsamixer as root and user. It doesn't say
what to do if the mixer won't operate properly.

Here are the contents of /proc/asound/oss/sndstat:

Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.13 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux salmo 2.6.19.2 #4 Mon Jan 15 09:17:27 PST 2007 i686
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
USB Device 0x46d:0x8ad at usb-0000:00:02.1-2, full speed
NVidia CK8 with ALC655 at 0xe0004000, irq 11

Audio devices:
0: USB Audio
1: NVidia CK8 (DUPLEX)

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Timers:
7: system timer

Mixers:
0: USB Mixer
1: Realtek ALC655 rev 0

   Does this help?

Rich
