Had to reboot my server/workstation this morning and lost the sound. I've worked through the trouble shooting section of the wiki, but need some expert help in figuring out what got lost. Running 2.6.19.2 kernel lspci reports: 00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation MCP2S AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a1) but I cannot load the intel8x0.ko driver. /proc/asound/cards has: 0 [U0x46d0x8ad ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8ad USB Device 0x46d:0x8ad at usb-0000:00:02.1-2, full speed Running '/usr/sbin/alsactl restore' produces: ALSA lib conf.c:1587:(snd_config_load1) _toplevel_:167:69:Unexpected char /usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1221: snd_config_load error: Invalid argument I don't know what to do about that. lsmod shows: Module Size Used by st 31452 - snd_pcm_oss 35968 - snd_mixer_oss 12924 - uhci_hcd 18088 - 8250_pci 17820 - 8250 16228 - shpchp 29752 - forcedeth 32736 - ehci_hcd 22948 - snd_usb_audio 69312 - snd_pcm 60420 - snd_timer 16256 - snd_page_alloc 6820 - snd_usb_lib 12316 - snd_rawmidi 16352 - snd_hwdep 5888 - snd 38020 - soundcore 5152 - ohci_hcd 15904 - usbcore 103428 - Cannot successfully run alsamixer. There's no aumix, either (but it used to work just fine.) I'd appreciate some suggestions on where to begin figuring out what I lost and how to get it back again. In addition to the speakers in the monitor, I had loaded the USB sound drivers for the boom headset to be used with Ekiga for telephone and video conference calls.
