Re: Anyone implemented AV in vis Alsa and RME equipment?

Dominique,

Thanks for the great link to the paper.  Very interesting reading.

My interest at the moment is low level experiences - not to make any enemies with my neighbors!

All -

By the way, the LF component -- a low-compromise bass horn I am designing has been evolving (on paper) for nearly 20 years.  Due to physical constraints and logistics, costs, until recently, I have been unable to realize a bass horn of the dimensions I need.   The design I'm now looking at is a straight exponential horn with mouth dimension approx 44' in circumference and I expect it will be approximately 17' in length.  Of course this is an outdoor project.  It will be installed in an amphitheater at a colleagues property.

I hope to realize nearly 50% efficiency from the bass horn.   We have a variety of other cabinets (mostly folded horn) to take care of bass, upper bass, etc.

Regardless of if my idea to implement some of the electronics in Linux is possible, we will be moving forward with traditional analog equipment for the bass project.   Again, my hope was to enjoy an element of control over the sub/infra-sonics which otherwise would be difficult with analog gear.

Thanks for your time.  I promise this is about Alsa/Linux.

Which instrument can play a note below 20 Hz? Even the biggest church organs
cannot do that.

You must look at the alsa soundcard matrix:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/

After, you must be aware of one thing: at alsa support analog input/output
capability don't mean at the hardware is capable to output frequencies below 15
Hz.

Technically speaking, this is the only point where a so low bass response will
do something good. But it is no speaker on the market that can do that.

For what I know, the first subsonic experiences was made by the nazis
during WWII. They was torturing prisoners with subsonic frequencies. So be
careful with it. In fact, even frequencies between 25 and 50 Hz can have a
physiological impact on the body, It is a very complicated matter because we
all know at we don't feel the same after listening to a concert of hard rock or
salsa music.
