Okay, now I have got 2.6.16-rt29 with Preemption Mode (Complete
Preemption (Real-Time) working. I have searched around a bit but
couldn't find how to trace the latency. 

The problem with the xruns still exists and the RT kernel has not
brought a change exept this: there are now no drop outs but the already
illustrated slow motion sound (like a walkman with an nearly empty
battery).

CPU is a Athlon XP 2600 with 1024 MiB DDR-RAM.

Before the Terratec EWX I owned an old Soundblaster Live 1024 and had
no problems at all...
