TuxOnIce freezes the filesystems, but the kernel hibernation maintainers have steadfastly refuses to even acknowledge that it is necessary. As it is, I'm pretty sure this is being caused by the XFS workqueues not being frozen appropriately i.e. WQ_FREEZEABLE needs to be added to various workqueue definitions so that work gets halted when kernel threads get halted.
