keymapping X11 from xwin32 on Win XP connecting to HP9000 v 10.20 CDE

I have used MacX on OS 9 then X11 on Mac OS 10.4.x with no problem. I say this so you will know that the HP side has been working.

When I had to use Win XP, xwin32 7.1 I had trouble where either the <i/I> key in keyboard MSUSA.XKB or the <</,> key in keyboard US.XKB would emit a destructive backspace instead of the proper character. I had to use the us105.xkb keyboard to fix this. Again, this indicates to me that the HP side is working.

I have updated xwin32 7.1 to xwin32 8.0 2136 which uses xfree86 as the default and I am back to having the <</,> key emit a destructive backspace. This happens in the ksh and in an application on the HP. Also, in the application the f8 function key does not work but all the other function keys do. Function key f8 makes the whole x11 screen go very dim with a watermark looking design of two gears.

I just updated to xwin32 8.0 2148 in which \Programs\StarNet\X-Win32 8.0 2148\xkb\keymap has xfree86 v 3.30. In Googling x11 xfree86 dawes I see that at least some files of xfree86 are at v4.0.3 so I donâ??t know if this has fixed the problem or not.

I havenâ??t been able to figure out why us105.xkb worked in xwin32 7.1 so I could then make the comparable change to xwin32 8.0.

Iâ??m looking for suggestions on how to overcome this problem.
