Text rendering problem with XFree86 4.3.0.1 on Intel I855GME in 8Bit color mode

Hello,

we have a Qt application that displays several lines of text.
When the length of these lines approaches the width of the screen
we're starting to see garbage in the left fourth of these lines.
This is not related to the number of characters in the line.

The problem disappears when we use a commercial graphics driver (SciTech
SNAP)
or change the color depth to 16 or 24 bpp.

The screen size is 640x480 pixels.

We're using a modified Debian Woody distribution whith:
XFree86 4.3.0.1
Linux kernel 2.4.30
libc 2.2.5

on a Pentium M system with 256MB RAM.

Does this sound like a known or fixed bug?

Best regards
