I have just installed Xfree86 4.5.0 and discovered that it no longer
handles PS/2 mouse re-plug events, which was introduced in version
4.2.0, worked in 4.3.0 but seems to have stopped working since version
4.4.0.

I require this facility but unfortunately can not go back to version
4.3.0 because it does not support the newer graphics cards.

Any information or pointers on how I could patch the mouse driver source
would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you already have 4.4.0 or higher built and installed, the first thing I'd try is ...

	cd xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/input/mouse
	rm -f mouse.o
	make EXTRA_DEFINES=-DSUPPORT_MOUSE_RESET install

... and restart the server.
