Modelines for i855?

In the past we used a motherboard with i815 chipset. As we have to be 
compatible with old monitors (some of them even no multisync) and a non 
standard resolution of 1152x900, we used modelines with the i810 driver 
to get this monitors work. Now we want to switch to a new motherboard 
with i855GM chipset but as I discovered modelines are no longer 
supported. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I think that only VESA 
BIOS and DDC  (EDID) timings are used at the moment. Is there any 
possibility to let the driver understand strange monitor timings?
