Question about XFree86 4.5.0 RC1

Hi!  I've just installed XFree86 4.5.0 RC1 on my Slackware 8 based Linux system 
and so far it's running great!  :)

I tried running Gimp 2.2.3 and it complained about the fontconfig library being 
too old.  I had fontconfig 2.2.x installed before installing XFree86 4.5.0 RC1 
and it seems the XFree86 install installed a backlevel version of fontconfig.

Does XFree86 come with a backlevel version of fontconfig?  Is there any plan to 
update that to a more current version?
