Title: Installing and configuring XFree86

HI everyone.  I'm new to Linux and I need your help please.

I just installed RH-FC3.  But all the openGl apps run really slowwwwww.
I read somewhere to check a configuration file (don’t remember which one) And see what the "rendering" is set to.  On my system its set to "no rendering". I understood this to mean I didn't have opengl installed.  And the only way To install it was to download the ATI Linux driver and install it.

From the ATI sight, I downloaded and ran check.sh and it told me that I didn't
Have XFree86 installed.

Soooo, I went to the XFree86 site and downloaded v4.3.0.(which is what version the ATI Driver said it needed.)  I rebooted to a command Line and ran the install

script "sh Xinstall.sh" as instructed.

After the install I ran XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new to test the server
and it comes back with the following errors:

(EE) xf860OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/mouse
            no such file or directory
(EE) Mouse0: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Mouse0"
                No core pointer

                Fatal server error:
                Failed to initialize core devices

In an attempt to correct the problem, I tried to change the
/root/XF86Config.new input device line to

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier     "Mouse0"
        Driver         "mouse"
        Option       "Protocol" "PS/2"
        Option       "Device"   "/dev/mouse"
        Option "SampleRate" "80"

But when I run the test again, I get the same errors.

Anybody got any ideas on whats happening and what do I need to do to get it to work correctly?

I'm running an Intel P350, 256mb ram, 40gig hd, ATI 3D Rage pro 4mb AGP card.

Thanks for your time and effort to help out a newbie!
