If you cannot determine why the X Font Server is dying, then I suggest that you stop using it, and use the traditional FontPath entries in the Files section of your configuration file (/etc/X11/XF86Config-4). e.g. Section "Files" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" ...
