Cannot start X with Intel graphic controler 82865G

Hello X specialists,

on my new PC (only the hardware is new) I have the Intel graphic controler 82865 G (Chip i830), and with SuSE Linux 8.0 Distribution. With the xfree86 software on this Linux distribution (that is something round 3.3 as far as I know), I've only succeeded to get my X desktop running with a 8 Bit colordepth resolution.

As videocard I have the ntel graphic controler 82865 G, which is based on the i830 chipset. Some hints from other mailing lists suggests me to install the newest xfree86 release, in order to achieve a true color colordepth (24 bit). This was propably a bad idea, because now I can't start X anymore, even not with the previous settings. I have installed the version 4.04 for glibc 2.0 on my computer.

Hoping for help, I add my XF86Config and the xfree86.log in the archiv attached to this mail.

What else can I do, instead of buying an new videocard?

Thank you in advance.

Alexander
