To be fair, it's probably more like the "Stupid DELL + a few other
manufacturers BIOS bug".  It's up to the manufacturer to produce a
(working) BIOS for the memory stuff.  Intel could be a little stronger in
their requirements though :-/

It could just be that more laptops than desktops use these chips.  I know
my problem as with my laptop.

Patches have been ioncorporated into CVS, so you could also try the 4.4
release candidate for a fix. It shouldn't be too hard a porblem to
solve...
