XFree86 crashes on Dell Latitude + ATI Radeon

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I am installing NetBSD 1.6.1 + XFree86
for the first time on a Dell Lattitude
laptop.

The video controller is an ATI Radeon
Mobility 7500

When starting the X server, (after either
running xf86config or 'XFree86 -configure')
the server dumps core with the message
"Caught signal 11. Server aborting"

This happens both with the X package distributed
with NetBSD, and with XFree 4.3.0 (binaries)
downloaded directly from xfree.org

Before that there are one or more messages
about undefined symbols, together with a
notice that they may not be the reason for
the crash. (Checking with 'nm', the missing
symbols are defined in the files under
/usr/X11/lib/modules)

Server + twm + xterms start OK if I choose
a standard VGA as the display device.

Free86.0.log is included at the
end of this message.

Any help on getting this to work would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Roberto Waltman
