Thanks for the reply.

I compiled and installed the NVIDIA module after I installed the 2.6.0-test9 
kernel. 
uname -a "gives me"
Linux Lunar 2.6.0-beta-test9 #3 Tue Nov 11 10:44:15 EST 2003 i686 unknown 
unknown GNU/Linux

The module is being loaded on boot. 
lsmod | grep nvidia "gives me"
nvidia	1697676		0
