[XFree86] X11 Configuration problems

Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm pretty much lost at this point.
I'm trying to set up X Windows and Lesstif on FreeBSD. I just installed
from CD the 4.3 release version of FreeBSD with X11 version 3.3.6. My
hardware is an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 AGP card with 32MB and a Sony
SDM-X72 TFT LCD Color Monitor with specs of:
Horizontol Freq: 28-92kHz
Vertical Freq: 56-85Hz
Max Resolution: 1280x1024

I tried setting up X using the graphical interface under
/stand/sysinstall. I read that I'm supposed to be using the rage driver
for the ATI, so I selected the ATI Rage 128 (generic) card and then tried
all the various default screen types (VGA, Super VGA, Extended, etc.).
When I run startx afterwards, the screen turns black and displays the
message that I'm out of scan range and displays frequencies 35.5Khz-87Hz.

Before I installed FreeBSD, I also tried out a couple of distributions of
Linux from CD on my machine including Storm and Mandrake. Neither of them
seemed to be able to figure out what to do with my video card and monitor
either and both just gave up during the install.

Is X11 able to run with my particular hardware specs? I thought it was
able to handle the ATI card, but I'm not sure about the monitor. Do I
need to try to upgrade to the latest version of X11 before I get any
further or should it work from this version as well? I have a feeling
some of my configuration settings are wrong, but have no clue as to how
fix them. Any help in getting this working (if possible) would be
very greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Following are copies of various settings files:

I ran X -probeonly as suggested in The Complete FreeBSD by Lehey and got
