It's not an XFree86 option, it is a kernel agpgart driver option.  
You use it in modules.conf.  It's actually agp_try_unsupported=1, 
I made a typo above.  Or for nonmodular agpgart kernels, it's a kernel 
commandline option "agp=try_unsupported"
