The chipset is supported because the driver knows about it and should theoretically be able to drive it. That's what supported means. However the driver isn't supported. It means: you get it as is. If it works - fine. If it doesn't - tough luck. Nobody who would be able and willing to support this driver has the hardware you are talking about. Nobody who has the hardware is willing or able to support it.
