XFree86 4.2 and Chips CT65548

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,

It looks like that I have a similar problem as Markus Klein.
(posting from Mon, 19 Aug 2002: ct65545 - (WW) CHIPS(0): ...)

I have installed Slackware-8.1 (kernel 2.4.18-xfs-1.1) on my Olivetti Laptop,
which has a Chips & Technologies CT65548 video chip included.
The Linux distribution includes Xfree86-4.2.0. However, when starting the
X-server, my screen does not establish, even if I use the modelines which I have
used in older versions of XFree86. The screen mainly becomes white starting at
the top of the screen, and I have to kill the X-server with CNTL-ALT-BACKSPACE.

I also tried several options described in README.chips, including "UseModeline"
and "FixPanelSize", but without any success.

Then, I installed the binaries of XFree86-3.3.6 in order to check its behaviour
under the new Linux system. When starting the 3.3.6-server, using my old
modelines, the screen was perfect.

I don't have any idea what is wrong when trying to use the 4.2.0-server. Could
something be wrong with the chips-driver of the 4.2.0-server?

For your information, you can find below both the log from the 4.2.0 trial as
well as the log from starting the 3.3.6-server.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Kai
