Radeon8500 does not work in Xfree86?

Hi all,

Well, I tried some things, but I am a complete newbie. I do not know much about Linux (yet). My distribution is Caldera Open Linux Workstation. From the website of ATI I downloaded (Linux-ix86-glibc22), and there they say that it is updated for the Radeon8500. I did this because the original install does not support my Radeon8500. So, after some (some?) reading I ended up running "sh Xinstall.sh" (as root). Installation goes fine, but after a reboot (I guess this can be done otherwise, but hey I am from Windows platform ;-)  ) I get this error message:
INIT: rc.gui: /opt/kde2/bin/kdm or X11 startup problems! For X11, try running "kxconfig" as root
INIT: switching to runlevel 3
INIT: sending processes the term signal

So, I logged in as root, and ran "kxconfig". But no Radeon8500 was found in the list of video adapters. And, after shutting down this kxconfig, my cursor was gone.  ??

Anyone?
