My old RH > 7.0 doesn't have the drivers necessary for my new computers > hardware so I havn't considered going back to 7.0. Can't say this is the best way but it worked for me... I was using Red Hat 7.1 with X . It worked fine. I used Gnome and KDE. I upgraded to RH 7.3 and my X System stopped working. I tried various things but in the end I still couldn't get it to work on my system so here is what I did. I re-installed RH 7.1. I have another drive in my system that I don't format. (home2) I changed to the /etc directory and did tar -cvf /home2/X11.tar X11 Then I went to /usr and did tar -cvf /home2/-usrX11.tar X11R6 I did a install of 7.3 and chose among other things KDE and Gnome. I went to /etc mv X11 X11_bak and then /usr mv X11R6 X11R6_bak copied the tar files from earlier back to the correct places, untarred and typed startx and it worked for me. _______________________________________________ Newbie@XFree86.Org *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
