Here it is an Radeon7500 I have been trying to use with DVI on an analogue monitor (Nec1375) and failed with 1600x1200, too. However, 1280x1024 worked, though only with a fixed refreshrate. I noticed X does have problems with DCC (well, also using vga), so maybe it's a DCC Problem or X just can't handle this resolution at DVI in general (yet). How ever, luckily I do not have any problems booting, in fact, using using a higher resolution at command line is only possible when using DVI. But thats not X related. > > Hi everybody, > > I am trying to make an ATI all-in-wonder Radeon card working with > a iiyama flat panel (au4831d), using the DVI port, at a 1600x1200 > resolution. > > The modelines of my XF86Config-4 are based on DDC information > found in the log, using the "radeon" driver, my HorizSync and > VertRefresh are from the monitor documentation : > > Section "Monitor" > > Identifier "my new iiyama" > VendorName "Unknown" > ModelName "Unknown" > HorizSync 24-80 > VertRefresh 56-85 > > ModeLine "1024x768" 65 1024 1040 1104 1344 768 781 783 817 > Modeline "1600x1200" 162 1600 1664 1856 2160 1200 1201 1204 1250 > > EndSection > > Section "Device" > > Identifier "ATI Radeon" > VendorName "Unknown" > BoardName "Unknown" > Driver "radeon" > Option "DPMS" "on" > > EndSection > > Section "Screen" > > Identifier "screen1" > Device "ATI Radeon" > Monitor "my new iiyama" > DefaultColorDepth 16 > Subsection "Display" > Depth 16 > Modes "1600x1200" > ViewPort 0 0 > EndSubsection > EndSection > > And the server gives : > > << (WW) RADEON(0): Mode 1600x1200 is out of range. > Valid mode should be between 640x480-1024x768 > (EE) RADEON(0): No valid mode found for this DFP/LCD > (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. > > Fatal server error: > no screens found >> > > If I add "1024x768" in the "Modes", the sever starts but the > screen becomes blank (without going to power saving mode), I > think it is because the dot clock is set to 162 by the driver. > > For now, I have changed "radeon" to "fbdev" and I have X running > in a 1024x768 "window" in the middle of the 1600x1200 screen :-/ > > I saw in the CVS Changelog that a lot of work is done on the > radeon driver but I do not want to wait for XFree 4.3, and using > the CVS version does not seem to be so easy... > > BTW, I did not succes in using a higher frame buffer resolution > than 1024x768, even in 16 bbp, eg 1600x1200 (using 0x31F in lilo > ask prompt / in lilo.conf ask field), or even 1280x1024 (0x31B). > It is too bad since high resolution frame buffer would have been > good enough for my pine / xemacs / lateX / mozilla activities... > > Lost, I have installed windows just to see if 1600x1200 using DVI > is possible : the XP ATI driver works great !
