First things first, check to see that you have a configuration file. In
RedHat it should be /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.  I
seem to recall that the configurator dropped it into your home directory
by default so if you configured as root the file XF86Config-4 file will
be sitting in your root directory and you need to move it to /etc/X11.
