Hello,

I've recently bought a laptop (Compaq Presario 2800) and installed Red =
Hat Linux 7.3 on it. Everything went just as planned except when it =
came to installing X.

The installer detected my video card (ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW) fine =
and configured my pretty generic LCD monitor (60 Hz refresh rate, if =
that matters). I intend to use 16 or 24 bit color with 1024x768 as my =
resolution (these do work as I have tried them under Windows XP).

When it came time to test my settings, I clicked OK. What came up was a =
slightly scewed (did I spel that right?) picture of my desktop. I tried =
different settings (different resolutions/color depth) but with the same =
results. I kept going with the installation, thinking it might work =
upon completion, but on the first boot-up, the graphics were still =
messed up.

Basically, it look like there is a bunch of streaks down my screen. =
They are virtical lines that mess up a few pixels around them. The =
screen is still pretty readable, but text is difficult to make out =
sometimes. I'm pretty sure it is a configuration problem, because =
taking screen shots and viewing them in Windows reveals a perfectly =
clear screen. What can I do about this? What settings should I change? =
Where?

If I did not give enough information, please email me back. Thank you =
for a great product, and I look forward to getting it resolved.

Thank you so much,
Andrew Lindeman
