Please read my description with yours: I just recently purchased a Presario 2800T, P4 - 1.5 gig, 40 gig hd, 512 meg ddr ram, ATI Mobility 7500 . I'm using rh 7.3 which comes with the latest XFree86 My problem is when I load Xwindows the display has some issues The only way I can explain it is that somehow my computer did not completely render the display. Remember the old interlaced gif that would render a little bit at a time, that is what the graphics and text look like on my display. The graphics and text are not completely rendered so I can make out parts of what the text says but very hard to read. Parts of the actual window look fine especially where there is solid colors like the background. I tried different combinations of Generic Laptop Display Panels but to no avail. I also tried different resolutions 640*480, 800*600, 1024*768. Can anyone help? -----Original Message----- From: newbie-admin@XFree86.Org [mailto:newbie-admin@XFree86.Org] On Behalf Of Andrew Lindeman Sent: Monday, May 27, 2002 6:26 PM To: newbie@XFree86.Org Subject: [Newbie]Graphics Scewed Hello, I've recently bought a laptop (Compaq Presario 2800) and installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 on it. Everything went just as planned except when it came to installing X. The installer detected my video card (ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW) fine and configured my pretty generic LCD monitor (60 Hz refresh rate, if that matters). I intend to use 16 or 24 bit color with 1024x768 as my resolution (these do work as I have tried them under Windows XP). When it came time to test my settings, I clicked OK. What came up was a slightly scewed (did I spel that right?) picture of my desktop. I tried different settings (different resolutions/color depth) but with the same results. I kept going with the installation, thinking it might work upon completion, but on the first boot-up, the graphics were still messed up. Basically, it look like there is a bunch of streaks down my screen. They are virtical lines that mess up a few pixels around them. The screen is still pretty readable, but text is difficult to make out sometimes. I'm pretty sure it is a configuration problem, because taking screen shots and viewing them in Windows reveals a perfectly clear screen. What can I do about this? What settings should I change? Where? If I did not give enough information, please email me back. Thank you for a great product, and I look forward to getting it resolved. Thank you so much, Andrew Lindeman ------=_NextPart_000_004C_01C205CB.3D9A7D70 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" = xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" = xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:st1=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" = xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"Content-Type" CONTENT=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <meta name=3DProgId content=3DWord.Document> <meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Microsoft Word 10"> <meta name=3DOriginator content=3D"Microsoft Word 10"> <link rel=3DFile-List href=3D"cid:filelist.xml@01C205CB.3CA5E440"> <o:SmartTagType = namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name=3D"time"/> <o:SmartTagType = namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name=3D"date"/> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:OfficeDocumentSettings> <o:DoNotRelyOnCSS/> </o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:SpellingState>Clean</w:SpellingState> <w:GrammarState>Clean</w:GrammarState> <w:DocumentKind>DocumentEmail</w:DocumentKind> <w:EnvelopeVis/> <w:BrowserLevel>MicrosoftInternetExplorer4</w:BrowserLevel> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if !mso]> <style> st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } </style> <![endif]--> <style> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Tahoma; panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:553679495 -2147483648 8 0 66047 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} span.EmailStyle17 {mso-style-type:personal-reply; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-ansi-font-size:10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt; font-family:Arial; mso-ascii-font-family:Arial; mso-hansi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; color:navy;} span.SpellE {mso-style-name:""; mso-spl-e:yes;} span.GramE {mso-style-name:""; mso-gram-e:yes;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style> <!--[if gte mso 10]> <style> /* Style Definitions */=20 table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} </style> <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapedefaults v:ext=3D"edit" spidmax=3D"1026" /> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapelayout v:ext=3D"edit"> <o:idmap v:ext=3D"edit" data=3D"1" /> </o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--> </head> <body bgcolor=3Dwhite lang=3DEN-US link=3Dblue vlink=3Dpurple = style=3D'tab-interval:.5in'> <div class=3DSection1> <p class=3DMsoNormal><font size=3D2 color=3Dnavy face=3DArial><span = style=3D'font-size: 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy'>I too am having this same problem. = <o:p></o:p></span></font></p> <p class=3DMsoNormal><font size=3D2 color=3Dnavy face=3DArial><span = style=3D'font-size: 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy'>Please read my description with = yours:<o:p></o:p></span></font></p> <p class=3DMsoNormal style=3D'margin-left:1.0in'><font size=3D2 = face=3DArial><span style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial'>I just recently purchased a = Presario 2800T, P4 – 1.5 gig, 40 gig <span class=3DSpellE>hd</span>, 512 = meg <span class=3DSpellE>ddr</span> ram<span class=3DGramE>,<span = style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>ATI</span> Mobility 7500 .
