[Newbie]geforce2 xfree86 config help

i am trying to get xfree86 running on my apple quicksilver G4@733, with
an nVidia GeForce2 MX video card, using the ADC connector with an apple
17" LCD. i am running debian woody ppc, with kernel 2.4.18-newpmac.

i hear that this hardware is finally supported with xfree86 4.2.0. i m
trying to find out. so i compiled and installed the source, then ran the
xf86config program, to get a sample config file. then 'XFree86
-xf86config <path-to-file>'. I get a blank screen, and i ctrl-alt-delete,
and notice the log says:
VGA(0): Cannot read V_BIOS,
Mouse0: cannot determine mouse protocol.

i edit the file, and it seems to know what video card i have, but it is
using the vga drive. when i switch to the 'nv' driver, i get this:
Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist, 0)
No drivers available.

so, what s wrong here? nv is the correct driver, right? where do i get
this driver? this is my first time trying to do xf86 myself by hand,
usually on my x86 it is automatic, so i am reading man XFree86, but there
is a lot, and the options i am trying are not helping much.

so if anyone can help, i will appreciate it much.

thanks
joe
