 This is an old bug in (I assume) wine's pre-DirectX 8.0 code. It's been
around forever, and also affects my copy of Jeff Minter's Gridrunner++..
That game is completely unplayable, as the uncleared elements fill the
screen quickly. I think I filed a bug for it years ago.
 That bug's not present in the cedega/winex fork, so you might try that.
Its support for old games is often poor, though. (GR++ stopped working in
one of the recent versions, but I haven't checked in a while.)
 Hopefully it'll get fixed sometime soon, DirectX is undergoing some major
overhauling ATM.
