I tried complete removing and reinstalling wine via synaptic then via
apt-get and finally by compiling it, but the error message stays the same.
Is there any way to fix this without reinstalling the whole system?
Make sure that when you completely remove it, that you're deleting
the .wine directory from your users dir, too. Since this houses all
the settings for wine, they have to be deleted too, or the new instance
of wine will continue to react as it did before the reinstall.
