There have been quite a few changes since June; you might want to try building a fresh copy of Wine from CVS. I have instructions on how at http://kegel.com/wine/qa You might also post the log that Wine writes to stdout so we can see if it's complaining about anything. Finally, do applications like FTP work? I just downloaded and installed Bulletproof FTP on Wine, and it was able to look up hostnames just fine.
