*IAVCEI Scientific Assembly, June 29 â?? July 4, 2025, in Geneva*

*Theme 1. Production of magma and assembly of volcanic plumbing systems*
*Session: Illuminating Active Volcanic Plumbing Systems*

In the past decades, geophysical studies have revealed volcanoes to be
complex systems in which chemical and physical processes are inextricably
linked to one another. Gaining a detailed understanding of the distribution
and composition of magmas in storage can increase our understanding of that
volcanic systemâ??s growth and evolution. Constraints from multiple
techniques including seismic, geodesy, potential field, and electromagnetic
methods have the ability to inform about processes and illuminate deep
within a volcanic plumbing system. These methods provide key constraints
that cannot be obtained in other ways. Joint inversion or joint
interpretation of distinct geophysical datasets is a particularly powerful
tool as it often reveals complementary aspects of the same volcanic system.
Additionally, integration of petrologic constraints into the interpretation
of geophysical studies broadens understanding of that volcanic system. In
this session, we welcome studies that use various methods to illuminate the
structure and plumbing of active volcano systems.
