Jutzeler, J. Paredes-Mariño, K.E. Fauria, F.C. Ramos, T. Mittal We aim to bring together the interdisciplinary community analyzing the processes of volcanism under water. Recent submarine activity, such as at Hunga volcano, brought worldwide attention to events and processes that have regional to global impacts on populations, and submarine and coastal infrastructures. Submarine volcanism occurs in a wide variety of geodynamic settings but the presence of the oceans makes it challenging to observe eruptive and intrusive events. For this reason, progress in this field is dependent on fostering community-wide efforts that integrate traditional approaches with innovative advances in observational, laboratory, and modeling techniques. We seek contributions that span the full range of approaches to studying modern submarine volcanism to provide new insights into geological, geochemical, and geophysical processes.
