From: Commission on Explosive Volcanism <cev@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Dear volcanology community,

As mandated by IAVCEI rules, the Commission on Explosive Volcanism (CEV)
started the process to hold an election for new officers. Each Commission
should have one or two active leaders or chairs (point of contact) and
board of officers. Leaders and board of officers should be elected every 4
years (or every 2 years if desired), within the Commission.

For this reason, we would like to take expressions of interest for new
officers of the IAVCEI Commission on Explosive Volcanism.

The primary aims of the Commission on Explosive Volcanism are:

   -

to foster modern, process-oriented studies of pyroclastic rocks,
   -

to encourage communication between scientists from the various branches
of research directed to such studies,
   -

to provide input into other areas such as volcanic hazards and
   atmospheric impacts, and
   -

to promote interest in explosive volcanism and its products. Research
interests focus on the processes of explosive eruptions, volcano evolution,
and magmatic influences on eruption dynamics.

Leader(s) and board of officers should promote:

   -

advances in volcanology by coordinating the affiliated members and
boosting the organization of working groups to study specific topics, or by
   some other mechanism.
   -

the participation of young scientists in the activities of the
   Commission and as board officers.
   -

   collaboration with other Commissions.

A requirement to act as officer is to be a IAVCEI member first, and then a
CEV member. You can become a CEV member by filling the form at the

Please let us know if you are interested â?? or if you would like to nominate
a colleague â?? by 10 March 2023. Ideally, we would like to see some
diversity in terms of gender, geographic representation, scientific
background, and nominations from both senior and early career scientists.
If you are potentially interested but would like to know more, do not
hesitate to email us at cev@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

We look forward to hearing from you about this leadership opportunity and
answering any questions you may have.

Kind regards from the current commission co-leaders,

Mattia deâ?? Michieli Vitturi

Daniele Andronico
