Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the opening of a PhD Position in
Experimental Petrology at the Institute of Mineralogy, Leibniz University
of Hannover. We would appreciate, if you could forward the advert to
potential candidates and your colleagues.

PhD position in experimental petrology â?? Izu-Bonin-Mariana boninites -
natural laboratory to study mantle melting and the evolution of magma
plumbing systems during early stages of subductionâ??

A PhD position in experimental petrology/geochemistry is open at the
Institute of Mineralogy, Leibniz University of Hannover. The research
project consists of (1) complementary investigations of natural core
samples recovered during IODP drilling project 352 (Izu Bonin Mariana Fore
Arc) and (2) an extensive work in high-pressure high-temperature laboratory
by conducting melting and crystallization experiments. The results of this
complementary geochemical and experimental approach will provide crucial
quantitative information (P,T, volatiles) to model the reorganization of
the oceanic lithosphere during initiation of subduction.

The experimental expertise at the Institute for Mineralogy with high
pressure â?? high temperature internally heated pressure vessel technique
will be combined with extensive analytical work (e.g. microprobe, infrared
spectroscopy, Laser ablation ICP-MS). We are looking for a person with a
strong commitment to research and new experience in the laboratory.

Required qualifications:
- MSc Degree in Earth Sciences
- Strong background in igneous petrology and geochemistry
- Preliminary experience in EPMA and LA-ICP-MS
- Experience in high-pressure-temperature experiments (Piston cylinder
and/or IHPV) is desired
- Very good skills in written and spoken English
- Team player and good communication skills

The position is funded for 3 years. The salary will be typical for
German-funded PhD candidates (i.e. 75% of grade E13 TV-L).

Supervisors: Dr. Renat Almeev, Prof. Francois Holtz, Prof. Roman
Botcharnikov (Mainz)

To apply, send your application to Renat Almeev (
r.almeev@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx).

The Leibniz University of Hannover intends to increase the number of women
in research and teaching positions, and therefore strongly encourages
female researchers to apply. Application should include motivation letter,
CV, grades, certificates, summary of the M.Sc. thesis, recommendations or
contact information for 2 referees, list of publications (if available). To
ensure consideration, submit application by August 31, 2022. The review
process will proceed until the position is filled.
