Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to our session at Goldschmidt 2022
(July 10th to 15th) in Honolulu, Hawaiâ??i and online in Theme: 05 entitled 5c
- Exploring the physical and chemical evolution of magmas in volcanic
plumbing systems.

Session description:

Understanding the physical and chemical variability of magma bodies in the
crust informs tectono-magmatic reconstructions as well as assessment and
mitigation of associated volcanic hazards. Magma bodies within a volcanic
system can range in depth, size, shape, and volume and have diverse
chemical compositions. Characterizing these processes and properties
requires analytical and numerical modeling of the physicochemical dynamics
between host rock and magma. Some questions relevant to this area of
research include: How do magmas change petrologically, rheologically, and
physically during storage? Where and how do magmas interact with each other
and the surrounding crust? How do magma bodies of different sizes and
geometries develop? What influences where magma bodies form? This session
focuses on the chemical and physical characteristics of magma bodies
through studies that utilize field, experimental, analytical, and/or
numerical modeling methodologies. We particularly invite contributions that
invoke interdisciplinary approaches and innovative methodologies that
illuminate the development and evolution of magmatic systems.

We look forward to hearing from Dr. Teresa Ubide as our keynote speaker.
