Hi All, with apologies for cross-posting

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a
tenure track position in Economic Geology at the Assistant Professor
level. We seek outstanding scholars that will establish an innovative
research program in Economic Geology that complements existing departmental
strengths, will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching at both
graduate and undergraduate levels, and will contribute to our commitment to
diversity and inclusion in higher education. The successful candidate is
expected to investigate scientific questions related to the broad field of
economic geology and mineral resources, including (but not limited to)
furthering our understanding of the varied geological processes that
generate mineral resources and associated modern analogues, the structural,
tectonic, magmatic, metamorphic, and fluid-related controls on
metallogenesis, and the use of this and other knowledge in the exploration
for new mineral deposits, all of which is expected to be communicated on
both national and international levels. The candidate is also expected to
develop a rigorous externally-funded research program and to supervise
graduate students at both the Masterâ??s and Doctoral levels. Preference
will be given to applicants whose research includes or integrates one or
more tools including: structural geology, remote sensing, mineral
exploration-related geophysics, hydrothermal fluids research, geochemical
modeling, experimental petrology, and/or isotope geochemistry.

Nevada is an ideal environment for economic geology as the number one gold
producing state in the USA as well as having active lithium, copper,
silver, zinc, molybdenum, vanadium, barite, specialty clay, and gypsum
producing mines and/or exploration, among other commodities. In addition,
the UNLV campus is within an hourâ??s drive of the Mountain Pass mining
district, host to one of the most significant rare earth element deposits
in the world.

The UNLV Geoscience Department currently has 21 Faculty, 225 undergraduate
students, and more than 50 MS/PhD students. The Department hosts
laboratory facilities that include stable isotope, argon geochronology,
fluid inclusions, XRD, multi collector LA-ICP-MS, soils, high pressure
piston cylinder apparatus, and electron microprobe/SEM labs. UNLV has been
classified as an R1 institution (very high research activity) and has been
ranked #1 for ethnic diversity in the nation. Diversity, equity, and
inclusion (DEI) are core values at UNLV and in our department. Candidates
from historically under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.

The position requires a Ph.D. in an appropriate earth science discipline
from a regionally accredited college of university at the time of hire.
Demonstrated teaching experience is desirable.

Application materials must include a 1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae,
3) proposed research plan (three-page limit), 4) statement of teaching
philosophy and interests (two-page limit), 5) a statement of past or
potential contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion (one-page
limit), 6) 1-4 representative publications, and 7) contact information for
at least four referees. Review of applications will begin January 15, 2022,
and continue until the position is filled. Materials should be addressed to
Dr. Pamela Burnley (Pamela.Burnley@xxxxxxxx), Search Committee Chair, and
are to be submitted online as we do not accept emailed materials. For
assistance with the application process, please contact UNLV Human
Resources at (702) 895-3504 or applicant.inquiry@xxxxxxxx. More details and
