2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 *From: Furman, Tanya* <tfl3@xxxxxxx> Dear Colleagues, I write to draw your attention to two novel sessions being offered at FM 2020. Make this meeting the one where your creativity shines through! The meeting will be virtual, so make a splash! Abstract deadline is July 29, 2020. Session 102196 is Poetry Slam: Spoken Art for the Sciences https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm20/prelim.cgi/Session/102169 Poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry. This format places dual emphasis on writing and performance, but the poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments. Each poem must be written by the performer, and no rhyming is necessary. We will permit poems between two and four minutes in length. Please join us in this session where you can express yourself in free form and share your passions with the broad AGU community. Note that the abstract submission for this session should include an approximate title and broad subject of the poem, but not the text of the poem itself as we hope to encourage spontaneity. Please prepare your poetry for a family audience. Conveners: Tanya Furman (Penn State University; furman@xxxxxxx), Maggie Walser (National Academy of Science; MWalser@xxxxxxx) Session 102172 is Dance Your Scientific Research https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm20/prelim.cgi/Session/102172 Sometimes words just don't convey the passion you feel for your work. There is a solution to this problem. Science Magazine and AAAS sponsor the "Dance Your PhD" competition for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Social Sciences. Feeling left out? We offer this special session for the creative Earth and Space Science community. Participants from all career stages are welcome to submit videos showcasing their research. In keeping with AAAS rules, the author must appear in the video. You can recruit as many friends, colleagues, musicians, dancers and costume artists as you like. Please submit a brief abstract with the title and scientific theme of the video. Ultimately, you will submit a video up to 10 minutes in length. Videos should contain sufficient text (prose, song lyrics or subtitles) to enable the audience to understand the motivation and findings that bring you joy. Conveners: Tanya Furman (Penn State University; furman@xxxxxxx), Rosie Oakes rosie.l.oakes@xxxxxxxxx) Please note that these sessions are open to all disciplines and *bonus* you can still be first author on an abstract in any other section as well. Come out and have fun! 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 ============================================================== Volcano Listserv is a collaborative venture among Arizona State University (ASU), Portland State University (PSU), the Global Volcanism Program (GVP) of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, and the International Association for Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI).
