* Two fully funded PhD positions in satellite remote sensing of volcanic
gas at University of Manchester, UK *

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at University of
Manchester is seeking 2 highly motivated students for fully funded (UK/EU)
PhD projects using the Sentinel-5P/TROPOMI satellite data to monitor global
volcanic SO2 emissions. The projects will be hosted in the volcanology
group, working with Prof. Mike Burton and Dr. Cat Hayer. Dependent on
ongoing COVID considerations, we would like the students to start in Autumn
2020, with the possibility of January 2021.

One project, investigating the impact of passive degassing on aviation, is
joint with Dr. Sam Engwell and Prof. Sue Loughlin at the BGS. The other,
looking at links between passive degassing and ground deformation, is joint
with Prof. Andy Hooper at Uni. of Leeds.

Students from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
