The USF College of Arts and Sciences Tampa campus cordially invites
candidates with a Doctoral degree in volcanology, geology, geophysics,
remote sensing, computer sciences or a related area with a research focus
in radar data processing to apply for this Post-Doctoral Research Scholar
position. This is a full-time position with *a starting date expected no
later than August 7th, 2020, and funding availability up to a maximum of 12
months*. Health insurance benefits will be offered through the USF
postdoctoral scholar health insurance program.



*DUTIES:*

The selected candidate will work in the volcanology group, School of
Geosciences, University of South Florida and conduct research for the NASA
ASAR-ISRO science project entitled â??Using Dual-Band SAR Imagery for
Characterizing and Mapping of Volcanic Flows through Their Backscattering
Propertiesâ??. The tasks of the Postdoctoral Researcher assigned to the
project will be (but not limited) to:

(i) generate a database of high-resolution, multi-frequency radar
backscatter characteristics over various volcanic terrains in the western
U.S.,

(ii) build high-resolution surface roughness maps,

(iii) integrate an adaptive roughness coefficient into standard flow hazard
models,

(iv) test and validate the modified flow hazard models using
well-constrained case studies of past volcanic flow events at the two
selected targets.

In addition, the selected candidate will work with the volcanology group to
write and publish manuscripts, prepare and submit proposals related to the
groupâ??s current and planned research agenda, and provide support in terms
of the daily activities associated with existing research. The candidate is
also encouraged to develop his/her own research agenda.



*QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):*

   - Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in volcanology, geology,
geophysics, remote sensing, computer sciences or a related area with a
research focus in radar data processing. Must meet university criteria for
appointment to the rank of Postdoctoral Fellow.

   - Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with research expertise or experience in one or more of the
following will be reviewed favorably: volcanology, remote sensing, radar
data processing, quantitative data modeling and analysis, statistical and
mathematical modeling, programming.
