The University of Texas High-Resolution X-ray CT Facility (UTCT
<https://www.ctlab.geo.utexas.edu/>) will host its annual short course on
the acquisition, visualization, and analysis of X-ray CT (XCT) data June
29-July 1, 2020 in Austin, TX. This course presents an overview of the
acquisition and interpretation of XCT data, followed by hands-on training
in 3D visualization and quantitative analysis of discrete geological
features (e.g., lithic clasts, mineral grains, chondrules, pores) and
fabrics, using Dragonfly <https://www.theobjects.com/dragonfly/index.html>,
ImageJ <https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/index.html>, Blob3D
<https://www.ctlab.geo.utexas.edu/software/blob3d/>, and Quant3D
<https://www.ctlab.geo.utexas.edu/software/quant3d/> (the latter two
programs developed at UTCT).

This course is sponsored in part by NSF and funds may be available to help
cover the cost of lodging and meals. There is no charge to attend. Because
space is limited we will not be able to accommodate all
applicants. Preference will be given to applicants who have or are in the
process of acquiring XCT data and have a demonstrated need for immediate
application of the skills learned. Students will receive first
priority. Participants are invited to bring their own XCT data, or to have
specimens scanned (at a significant discount) at UTCT prior to the course.

To apply please email an application statement (limit of ~300 words) to Dr.
Romy Hanna (romy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) no later than *Friday, April 24th* that
briefly outlines:

1) Relevant biographical information (including your academic affiliations
and your status as student or faculty/staff);

2) The type of sample(s) that you wish to analyze and your research
objectives;

3) Financial need, if any; and

4) Whether you will have XCT data available for use in the workshop
