Scope: This is a training course on the use of VOLCANBOX. VOLCANBOX is a
specific methodology (see Marti, 2017) and a set of e-tools (Felpeto et
al., 2010; Sobradelo et al 2013, 2014; Bartolini et al., 2013; 2018; Scaini
et al 2014) to conduct long- and short-term volcanic hazard assessment which
were developed as part of the VeTOOLS project, funded by Civil Protection
Unit of the European Union, by the Group of Volcanology of Barcelona (CSIC,
Spain). VOLCANBOX consists of an integrated software multi-platform
specially designed to assess volcanic hazard, as well as assess and manage
volcanic risk. This system facilitates the interaction and cooperation
between scientists and Civil Protection Agencies in order to share, unify,
and exchange procedures, methodologies and technologies to effectively
reduce the impacts of volcanic disasters by improving assessment and
management of volcanic risk. For this reason, this course is addressed to
post-graduate, doctorate and post-doctorate students, members of volcano
observatories, and Civil Protection experts interested or working on
volcanic hazard assessment and management of volcanic crisis. The course
will offer a description of the general concepts and methodologies that are
behind VOLCANBOX and will train participants in the use of the different
tools that it contains, offering some examples on their use and on the
limits of its applicability.
