Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to the AGU 2019 Fall
Meeting session entitled â??Volcanic and Tectonic Degassingâ??. In this session
we aim to provide highlights of the recent scientific advances in volcanic
and tectonic degassing that include, but are not limited to, the ten-year
work of the Deep Carbon Observatory Deep Carbon Degassing project. AGU will
be held 9-13 December 2019 in San Francisco California. Abstract
submissions are due 31 July 2019. More details on our session description
and invited speakers can be found below.

Thank you!

Taryn Lopez, Hyunwoo Lee, Silvana Hidalgo & Tobias Fischer

Volcanic and tectonic degassing:

Volatile release from the Earthâ??s interior to the surface plays a
fundamental role in planetary and atmospheric evolution and provides key
insights into crustal processes. The main identified sources of volatile
outgassing from the solid Earth are volcanoes and tectonically active
regions. Recent progress has been made to assess the quantities, sources,
rates and pathways of volatile outgassing from both volcanic and tectonic
regions. This session focuses on the quantification, observation and
modeling of volatile outgassing. We welcome contributions providing new
constraints on the temporal and spatial variability of volcanic and
tectonic degassing; advances in methods to better quantify volatile
outgassing; the utilization of geochemistry and isotopes as volatile
tracers; and interdisciplinary approaches to link volatile outgassing to
crustal magmatic and tectonic processes. This session invites results from
the ten-year Deep Carbon Observatory Deep Earth Carbon Degassing
(DCO-DECADE) initiative and contributions from the community interested in
volatile outgassing on Earth.

Santiago Arellano, Chalmers Institute of Technology
