CAP 20-25 Excellency Chair Programme

Two Post-doctoral position at UCA (full time, 24 months)

The University of Clermont Auvergne (UCA) and the Challenge 4 of CAP 20-25 project (Disaster risk and socio-economic vulnerability) invite applications for two postdoctoral fellowships on independent research of the applicant’s choosing that will fit into the research themes of the project (Earth sciences, economics, mathematics, human and social sciences). The challenge aims at studying complex interactions between societies and natural disasters, in particular volcanic risks in developing countries and the path between research and political decision-making. Research activities may relate to physical and socio-economic impacts of natural hazards, hazard–risk evaluation, vulnerability–resilience assessment, or risk/hazard communication strategies. Details on research programs and laboratories involved can be found on the web site*.

The research fellowships will be funded by CAP 20-25 Excellency Chair Programme. Contracts may start from 1st November 2018. Fellowships are supported for 24 months and include a research allowance. The net annual salary is about € 24,000 and includes a benefits package (health insurance plus retirement and unemployment benefits).

Candidates should have completed their PhD by the time of application. They are requested to submit their own original research proposal in the field of the study of interactions between societies and natural disasters (limited to no more than 5 pages of A4), a CV (including a list of publications, description of thesis and any postdoctoral research), a letter of motivation, and the PDF copies of up to five publications. All these documents should be submitted to the following email address: socheata.sean@xxxxxx. They should also ask two referees to send letters of recommendation to the same email address. The deadline for applications is September 15, 2018. Research projects will be selected based on scientific excellence and innovation. Applicants do not need to speak French, and applications can be written in English.

Please contact the Administrator of the project, Socheata Sean (socheata.sean@xxxxxx) and the Director of the project, Patrick Bachelery (p.bachelery@xxxxxxx) for any further information.
