Dear colleagues,

We would like to bring your attention to our session "V030: Volcanic Intraplate Volcanism" at this years' AGU Fall Meeting (10-14 December, 2018), which for the first time takes place in Washington D.C. Please consider submitting your abstract to this session. The abstract submission is now open and deadline is Wednesday, 1 August 23:59 EDT.

More details about the session:

https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm18/prelim.cgi/Session/51960

Session ID: 51960
Session Title: V030: Oceanic Intraplate Volcanism
Section/Focus Group: Volcanology, Geochemistry and Petrology
Conveners: Lisa K. Samrock (GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel), Thor Hansteen (GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel), Ricardo Ramalho (Instituto Dom Luiz, Universidade de Lisboa), and Dennis Geist (National Science Foundation).

Abstract:

Oceanic intraplate volcanism can be related to mantle plume activity and/or within-plate tectonic processes. The interplay between tectonic, volcano-tectonic, and igneous activity control compositional evolution, growth, and destruction of seamounts and ocean islands. These processes have been a focus of research for many years, but are only partially understood. Processes and timescales controlling the evolution of oceanic intraplate volcanoes, and their geometry and longevity, can be studied at macroscopic- to microscopic scale. The integration of these processes in a coherent holistic view, however, is key to our comprehension of ocean island volcanoes and their origins.

The aim of the session is to discuss recent research on a variety of topics on (submarine and subaerial) oceanic intraplate volcanism, to test similarities and differences between the various volcanic groups/archipelagos, and to improve our understanding of evolution and processes of oceanic intraplate volcanoes in general.

Additional information can be found here. Submissions received by the early deadline of 25 July have a chance to win a $100 US gift card.

We look forward to seeing you in Washington D.C.

On behalf of the conveners,

Lisa Samrock
