We invite applications to join the volcanology group of the “Laboratoire Magmas & Volcans” in Clermont-Ferrand, France (http://lmv.univ-bpclermont.fr
The applicant must be able to teach Earth Sciences in French from first year undergraduate to final-year Masters levels. The teaching load will be 64 hours per year during the three first years, and 98 hours per year during the two following years. Teaching duties will include preparation and delivery of lectures, practical exercises, supervised dissertation work and field classes. This teaching will be principally within the fields of undergraduate “Earth Sciences” and masters level “Earth, Planetary and Environmental Sciences”. Following the main themes of our teaching department, the applicant must thus be capable of teaching within the areas of “Magmas and Volcanoes”, “Geology and Geotechnical Planning” and “Climate and Atmospheric Sciences” at the University of Clermont Auvergne. He/She must possess expertise in the areas of volcanic hazards, as well as in vulnerability and risk. This latter area of expertise is essential because the candidate will be central to the development of an international module “Natural disaster risk reduction and management” to be taught as part of our “Earth, Planetary and Environmental Sciences” course in collaboration with other disciplines such as economics, psychology, geography, law, etc.
At the end of five years, the recruited candidate will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent position at professor level.
