Subject: GPUSPH coding week, Catania, 14-19 May 2018
************************************************************************************************************
We are delighted to announce that from 14 to 19 May, 2018 a GPUSPH coding week sponsored by the ATHOS international research programme will take place at INGV in Catania, Italy.
The GPUSPH coding week is the biannual hackaton dedicated to the development of the GPUSPH particle engine, bringing together its users and developers to improve the present and prepare the future of GPUSPH.
Designed by the TecnoLab at INGV-Catania, GPUSPH was the first implementation of Weakly-Compressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (WCSPH) to run entirely on GPU with CUDA. It is now developed within the scope of the ATHOS research programme, which brings together international partners interested in the development of “Advanced Tools and metHods for cOmputational fluid-dynamicS”: INGV (Italy), EDF (France), JHU (USA), and BAW (Germany).
The GPUSPH source code, example test cases and relative datasets are available for download from the GPUSPH project website: http://www.gpusph.org/
The coding week will allow the participant to focus on the main areas of development of GPUSPH, covering its performance, numerical stability, flexibility and usability.
Please also consider applying for the ATHOS Travel Grant by the April 30 deadline. This grant is for two Ph.D. students or early-career scientists (within 3 years of completing their Ph.D.), working on a volcano-related application of the SPH method, to attend the workshop.
The application process will require the submission of the following materials:
1) Personal details (CV) and transcripts from educational institutions attended (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
2) Letter of recommendation from advisor, mentor, or professional in the field.
3) Proposal narrative including research objective, scientific merit, research methods and plan (not to exceed one page).
4) Proposed budget, including travel, accommodation and meals needs, and brief budget justification.
Correspondence, further questions and application forms should be sent to Dr. Giuseppe Bilotta (giuseppe.bilotta@xxxxxxx) by the April 30.
Yours sincerely,
The Directors of ATHOS,
