*** Short Course: Scaling and Design of Laboratory Experiments ***

Dates: 19th-23rd March 2018
Location: Durham University
Cost: Free, including UK travel and accommodation (some contribution to international travel fees may be possible depending on uptake)

This five-day residential course in Scaling and Design of Laboratory Experiments is aimed at postgraduate students and other early-career researchers who wish to gain experience of laboratory analogue experiments in the broad field of environmental flows - including the flow of magma and lava. Students will learn the principles behind good experimental design, with a focus on appropriate scaling between experiments and nature, and on rigorous handling of uncertainties. Theoretical principles will be applied and consolidated through hands-on practical experiments, which will form the backbone of the course.

The course is open to anyone, but spaces are limited to 18 applicants and researchers funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council will be given priority.

For more details and to register, please visit the course website: http://community.dur.ac.uk/nerc.experiments/

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at nerc.experiments@xxxxxxxxx.uk.

Kind regards,

Ed Llewellin.
