The Volcanic Investigation Group of Universidad Católica del Norte (GIV-UCN in spanish), northern Chile, is looking for two postdoctoral candidates in: 1) Volcanic seismology and 2) Volcanic risk assessment respectively (both for northern Chile volcanoes). Each candidate will have to apply for the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT-Chile) postdoctoral fellowship in 2018. We are looking for earth sciences professionals with a PhD degree obtained after 1stJanuary 2015. If the candidate had children  born during their PhD studies, then the date is changed to 1st January 2014. Non Chilean applicants must have an active Chilean National Document for foreigners with one of following visa status: 1) Permanent residence; 2) temporal residence; 3) document for permanent visa with working authorization in process; 4) student visa with working authorization.

 

The postdoctoral fellowship can be applied for 2 or 3 years, which includes US$~33,000 for maintenance, US$~7,000 for research expenses (such as local and foreign travel, fieldtrips, laboratory supplies, among others) and US$~700 for health insurance, each year. Additionally, a once off relocation amount of US$~4,500 is available.

 

Selected candidates must submit a research project (according to CONICYT requirements ; http://www.conicyt.cl/fondecyt/category/concursos/postdoctorado/), which will be sponsored by a GIV-UCN researcher. The successful candidates are likely to be announced in December 2018, with approved projects starting in March-April 2019.
