We are looking for contributions to a special volume of the Geosciences journal on Volcano
Monitoring. Although currently lesser known, this journal is rapidly gaining a foothold in the list
of publications hosting high impact papers in volcanology. Since there is no comprehensive
volume published anywhere on Volcano Monitoring, this Special Issue has a great
opportunity to become widely used, particularly in volcano observatories. The idea is that it
will include aspects of all the main methods currently used for monitoring, with attention paid
to some of the more important volcanic regions. More information is available here:
http://www.mdpi.com/journal/geosciences/special_issues/volcano-monitoring
In covering all aspects of monitoring, some papers can be more methods orientated, with
others being case studies of a specific volcano, including interpretation of data from the
whole network, or a specific type of monitoring. It would be great if the volume includes
examples of different situations in the context of risk: frequently erupting volcanoes, as well
as those in a long period of repose; distributed volcanism; volcanoes with phreatic activity;
calderas, active fissures, submarine volcanoes, crater lakes; basaltic v. rhyolitic etc. How
does the monitoring differ between different types of volcanoes, both in terms of the
instruments installed and the interpretation of data? Papers covering how monitoring data is
incorporated into risk evaluation or emergency plans, the design and application of alert
systems, communication and decision-taking etc. are also welcome.
Please submit using the above link. Deadline is 30 April.
